1. CLASS ATTENDENCE LEAVE AND OD RULES

1.1

100% attendance is mandatory in all courses. However, a maximum of 25% leeway in attendance is permitted to accommodate minor illnesses, co-curricular activities, family emergencies, and other such contingencies. Therefore, even under such contingencies, a student is expected to maintain a minimum of 75% attendance in each course.

1.2

If a student’s attendance falls short of 75% and/or they also miss the mid-term examination, applicable penalties(refer to penalty policies) will be enforced — unless the shortfall is due to a major ailment requiring prolonged bed rest or hospitalization.

 Major Ailment: Loss of Attendance and/or Missing Mid-Term Examinations.

A student will be considered to have suffered from a major ailment if:

  • The ailment requires prolonged hospitalization, bed rest, isolation, or is a psychiatric illness (e.g., depression, schizophrenia),
  • The program office is informed in writing about the ailment within two days of hospitalization or diagnosis, and
  • The ailment is verifiable through a certificate from a general practitioner or hospital, confirming that the student is unfit to study or attend classes.

Co-Curricular/Committee Work Attendance Clause

  • Participation in co-curricular activities, committee responsibilities, or official college duties will be considered for attendance relaxation of 20% only if the student maintains at least 60% actual classroom attendance.
  • If attendance falls below 60%, no committee work, event duty, or extracurricular involvement will be considered valid for exemption or leniency.

Due to the varying pedagogical structure across courses, some may not have formal classes during part of the term and may instead involve project work. In such cases, students will be required to submit interim/final project reports, design documents, or demonstrate ongoing work.

1.5

Attendance Tracking and Correction

Attendance for all courses will be recorded through the ERP system. In case a student is physically present in class but marked absent in ERP, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the concerned faculty immediately for correction. Delayed requests may not be entertained.

1.6 Reward for High Attendance

  • Students who maintain more than 95% attendance in a semester will be:

    • Recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation.

    • Awarded bonus points for internal assessment (where applicable).

    • Given preference in academic and leadership opportunities, including college representation in external events.

  • This is to encourage a culture of consistency, punctuality, and academic seriousness.

1.7 Participation in National / International Level Contests / Events

Students are encouraged to participate in prestigious events hosted by recognized institutions, universities, or organizations. However, participation in insignificant or non-relevant events is discouraged. Attendance exemption for participation will be granted only under the following conditions:

Eligibility for Attendance Exemption:

  1. Attendance will be granted only if:

    • The competition/event is hosted by top-tier institutions/organizations (such as IIMs, IITs, NITs, or institutions of similar national/international standing) from any stream; or

    • The student is officially representing the state or the country.

  2. Prior Approval Required:

    • Permission must be obtained at least three days in advance by submitting a written application along with supporting documentary proof to the Program Office.

  1. Maximum Attendance Exemption:

    • In an academic year, a student may be granted up to 20% attendance exemption per course, specifically in courses whose sessions are missed due to event participation.

  2. Discretion of the Institute:

    • The Institute authorities reserve the right to deny permission based on the nature and timing of the event/competition.

  3. Evaluation Components:

    • Any course evaluation component (e.g., quizzes, presentations, assignments) and any kind of written examination (mid-semester test) missed due to event participation will not be rescheduled. Students will not receive compensatory evaluation.

1.8 Corporate Engagement / Placement Activities

  • 100% attendance (those who filled the form) is expected in all placement and corporate engagement activities.

  • A minimum of 70% attendance is mandatory to remain eligible for on-campus placement opportunities.

  • Students who attend placement or corporate engagement activities organized by the college will be marked present for regular classes held during the same time.

    • This applies only if the activity is officially communicated by the Training & Placement Cell or Department Coordinator.

    • Students must ensure their attendance is recorded by the concerned faculty or placement coordinator.

Guidelines for Availing 100% Attendance for Placement Activities:

  1. Prior Approval is Mandatory:

    • Attendance will be provided only if the student obtains prior permission from the Placement Officer or Chairperson (Placements).

  2. Advance Application:

    • Permission must be requested at least three days in advance, with an application and relevant documentary proof, submitted to the Program Office.

  1. Right to Deny Permission:

    • The institute reserves the right to deny permission based on the nature and timing of the placement activity.

  2. No Re-Evaluation or Make-Up:

    • Any evaluation component (e.g., quizzes, assignments, presentations) missed during the exemption period will not be rescheduled or compensated.
